Intro: What Heaven Will Be Like

Outline

  • The fear of death is society’s greatest issue. But the only thing that should scare them more than death is facing the wrath of God.

  • Heaven is a Christian’s proper expectation and hope. It is our Paradise, where we shall spend eternity with our Lord and Creator.

  • The rewards we receive on earth are part of the joy we hope for in heaven, for we will be able to give all of it back to Christ our Savior.

  • We are made for heaven!

Three Main Points

  1. The Prominence of Heaven: Heaven is talked about or referred to 578 times in the Bible.

  2. The Plurality of Heaven: There are three heavens the Bible talks about. The first heaven is mentioned in Isaiah 55:9-10, “For as the rain cometh down, and the snow from heaven, and returneth not thither, but watereth the earth, and maketh it bring forth and bud, that it may give seed to the sower, and bread to the eater.” The first heaven is the atmosphere surrounding the earth. The second heaven is referred to in Genesis 1:14-17, “And God said, Let there be lights in the firmament of the heaven to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs, and for seasons, and for days and years: and let them be for lights in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth: and it was so. And God made two great lights; the greater light to rile the day, and the lesser light to rule the night: he made the stars also. And God set them in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth.” The second heaven is what we refer to as outer space. The third heaven is the Father’s dwelling place, and mentioned in Psalm 11:4, “The Lord is in his holy temple, The Lord’s throne is in heaven: His eyes behold, his eyelids try, the children of men.”

  3. The Place Called Heaven: The literal and specific place of Heaven. John 14:1-3 says, “Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me. In my Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.”

Conclusion

Heaven is where the Christian longs to be, in constant company with the Father.
